Robert S. Manning began his truck driving career in the spring of 1954 hauling a load of poles from San Diego to Los Angeles, California. In the early years of his career Mr. Manning worked as an independent contractor for a variety of transcontinental refrigerated carriers hauling produce and meat. Over time he recognized the need for specialists in the field of boat and yacht transport.
In 1971, Mr. Manning went to work for Bayliner as Director of Transportation. In 1975 Mr. Manning left the employment of Bayliner (Marine Express, Inc.) to become their exclusive marine transport contractor. During his period of service in this position, Bayliner’s fleet grew from no trucks to over 200 trucks, with Manning Truck Center providing all service at the Arlington, Washington and Valdosta, Georgia shops. Manning Truck Center manufactured approximately 300 transport trailers and all load hardware exclusively for the use of Bayliner and pioneered the use of shrink wrap packaging for commercial marine transport. This relationship with Bayliner continued until the year 2000 when Bayliner was absorbed by Brunswick.
Mr. Manning incorporated Manning Truck Center in the mid 1990s and after the shut-down of Bayliner hired their former Asset Manager, Director of Transportation and Operations Manager, John Patrykus, who brought more than 25 years’ experience in marine transport to Manning Truck Center, Inc. Along with several of the veteran Bayliner drivers Manning Truck Center quickly became one of the most reliable and successful marine transport companies in the United States.
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
Today, Manning Truck Center hauls year-round from coast to coast and boasts a crew of very experienced and professional drivers as well as a fleet of six Kenworth tractors, four 53’ yacht trailers and ten 53’ tandem axle trailers. All units are rigged for multiple boats, large power boats and sailboats. All loads are fully insured at up to one million dollars per load. We offer personalized service to factories, dealers and individual boat owners and specialize in oversize loads and sailboats. We also offer local pickup and delivery for trailerable boats.
Our terminal and full service shop is located in Arlington, Washington. We have unload and reload capabilities, secure storage and shrink wrap service.
